Swiftcover are expecting around 100,000 teenagers from the UK will go on holiday this year without their parents – but also without travel insurance.
Young people going on holiday without their parents are one of the highest risk categories of holidaymaker – with all that freedom to explore and a desire to experience new things for the first time. However this means that adequate travel insurance is more important than ever, so Swiftcover would like to see young people making it a part of their holiday planning.
Even though travel insurance does not cover people under the influence of alcohol, something that many teen travellers enjoy, there are still many different situations where travel insurance is still applicable said a Swiftcover spokesperson.
Legal and General are reminding UK holidaymakers to make sure their travel insurance includes their luggage, even if the trip is within the United Kingdom.
From a study carried out by a team at Legal and General a typical family of four people could have belongings in their luggage worth over GBP3,000, so not having insurance in place for such a value would be a high risk strategy. The common conception of travel insurance is that it is needed for overseas travel, but this is not the case.
Baggage can be lost or damaged on any holiday say Legal and General, not just one in a different country, and losing GBP3,000 worth of items would not help anyone. Far better, therefore, to get suitable travel insurance.
Travellers aged 65 and over, of which there are many, can find it very difficult to get travel insurance according to information provided by Saga Insurance, although they do add that it is not as difficult as it first appears.
Saga Insurance are specialists in travel insurance for those aged 50 and over and advise travellers in this age group to be candid about any pre-existing medical conditions to avoid invalidating their cover. Insurers do not automatically dismiss their application and it is far better to travel with peace of mind than without.
This is something Saga Insurance cater for and they also have no maximum age limit, something they can support by revealing the oldest person they have arranged travel insurance for so far was 100 years old. 92 percent of insurers have been found to have upper age limits, putting Saga in the minority, but that means people know who to talk to when they need travel insurance.
