Tenants are being asked by Direct Line home insurance to make sure they have contents insurance in place and also to speak to landlords regarding home security.
It makes sense for landlords to protect their property with security measures said a Direct Line spokesman, especially since it can help reduce insurance premiums. It is also prudent for tenants to have contents insurance cover to protect their own belongings.
Many tenants are surprised when they find out how little Direct Line home insurance costs and feel much happier knowing their goods are covered. With the added security provided by the landlords actions too that figure can go even lower.
Esure are reminding the new students headed for university this year that home insurance cover is something that should not be overlooked.
The typical student will have around GBP1,500 worth of items they take with them when they go to university and without proper home insurance cover this could all be lost. Parents often help out with student insurance cover, though Esure found nearly a quarter of them had not thought about the matter.
Cover can be arranged quite easily for most students, sometimes having their own policy or alternatively using existing home insurance that their parents have. A number of insurers will include separate cover for students accommodation on the main home policy said Esure.
Sainsburys Bank home insurance division has found that just short of 10 million people are thinking of planting trees in their gardens this year and would like to warn them about the threat of subsidence.
The main advice given by Sainsburys Bank is to select a tree that will be of a suitable size for the garden and also to plant it a good distance away from the house. If homeowners do not follow this advice they may find an increased risk of subsidence and the need for an insurance claim. Leylandii and Willow are two of the most troublesome trees it has been found.
A Sainsburys Bank spokesman revealed that home insurance claims for subsidence have cost British insurers over GBP700,000 per day over the last 5 years. It is therefore important to be aware of the risks before going ahead with planting a tree.
