Highway Code Changes – Drivers Be Aware

Published: 26/06/08

A recent Highway Code update has led Churchill Insurance to ask drivers to get themselves a copy to keep abreast of new developments, fearing many drivers are unaware of new rules.

Most people are aware of the law not to use a mobile phone whilst driving, but around sixty-five percent of drivers were unaware that the Highway Code says you must not eat at the wheel. Over eight out of ten people were also unaware that the Code does not allow the playing of loud music.

From an insurers perspective, as well as the Highway Code producers, these matters are all about lack of awareness and control, situations that can easily cause accidents. Concentrating on driving, something that appears to be quite easy to do, can sometimes not be so easy with all the distractions the modern world brings. People rushing from one place to another, sat-nav guidance, a plethora of radio stations and tiny controls – just some of the issues the modern driver has to contend with – and ones that Churchill Insurance hope will not cause claims.
