Barclays Research Anticipates Recession

A study by Barclays Wealth, closely associated with the Barclays Insurance division, has carried out research that indicates the likelihood of a recession in the USA to be an even money chance.
A further finding from the study undertaken by the Barclays Insurance associate division expects a reduction in the UK base rate this month, which many other financial industry commentators also believe will be the case. The relevance of these two factors is that the impact of a recession in the United States will without doubt impact on the UK economy, so the Bank of England base rate cut could be the first step in protecting the economy.
The year is set to be an eventful one, driven originally by the collapse of the sub-prime lending market in the USA but now creating waves in economies across the globe. The Barclays study, although appearing to sound gloomy, may be well worth heeding.
