Cornhill Direct Christmas Spending Survey

Published: 11/12/07

A study by Cornhill Direct reveals that a significant number of UK shoppers will be spending less on Christmas this year because of the credit crunch.

The survey showed almost a third of those surveyed will not be spending as much as last year, the spending including food, drinks, decorations and so on as well as presents. Money wise respondents to the Cornhill Direct survey spent just over GBP 2,100 last Christmas, with just over GBP 1,000 going on presents.

Considering this is for just a few days out of the whole year it is a pretty large sum of money and one that some people, as the survey shows, are not able to manage this time round.

The other consideration for those buying gifts is to make sure they keep them safe until the day itself. It is always wise to keep gifts out of sight and to check contents insurance details to ensure the limits are adequate for the extra value of goods in the property.
